The Perks of Being a Wallflower book cover redesign

This is a book cover redesign of the book the perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The cover design was inspired by a scene that takes place in the book where the main character has to drive home for the very first time at night and this represents a plethora of important things that happen next in the book; it acts almost as the first domino in the domino effect that the main character’s life ends up being effected by. The method of image making is illustration; first done on paper then translated and digitized in procreate. The color choice was dictated by the seemingly cheery facade that this book as well as the film has that draws viewers in despite the depressing undertones and heavy subject matter. The illustration style is inspired by the cover art for the 25th anniversary version of the house on mango street by Sandra Cisneros.
